Trauma, Burn, and Critical Care Research Manager

Job Description
UW’s Division of Research has an exciting opportunity for a Research Manager in the Department of Surgery at Harborview Medical Center.
This position oversees a portfolio of clinical and health services research ranging from investigator-initiated studies to industry-sponsored clinical trials. The Research Manager will supervise a team of Research Study Assistants and Research Coordinators and serve as a strategic partner to Principal Investigators (PIs) in program development, grant preparation, implementation and compliance. This position will work with surgical faculty, administrators, and research staff to facilitate new and existing research projects, grants, and publications.
The individual in this role reports to the Assistant Director of the Division of Research. The position also requires the Research Manager to liaison with Harborview Medical Center administration with regards to research certifications and critical care research advisories.

Research has been integral to these results. The work conducted across the Trauma, Critical Care, Burn, and Plastic Surgery divisions has saved lives, restored function, and shaped clinical practice at a regional, national, and international level.

Job Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in health sciences, nursing, public health, life/social sciences or related field.
Additional Requirements

6 years' experience with human subjects' research management
Has established technical expertise; serves as a resource to research unit/department. Demonstrated expertise managing large and/or multiple research projects.
Progressive responsibility in project management, team management, and leadership.
Ability to make independent decisions to resolve problems as they arise, free from immediate direction, within the scope of responsibilities.
Broad understanding of hospital systems, inpatient and outpatient healthcare patient care, and how to embed research projects within these settings.
History of success assessing and interacting with a myriad of individuals over whom they will not have direct authority (such as hospital, clinic, or site staff) to assure that projects are accomplished in the allowed time, compliant manner, and with available resources.
Exceptional verbal and written skills; public speaking and presentation skills.
Knowledge and ability to interpret, teach, and comply with varying requirements by funding agencies, human subjects’ boards (IRB), FDA regulations, and other regulatory and oversight bodies.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office required. Ability to learn new software programs.
Ability to create and use multiple complex tracking systems to maintain contact and communication with sites and collaborators
Desired Qualifications

Nursing Degree or relevant Master’s degree
7+ years of experience with human subjects research coordination in an academic setting
Research administration experience (e.g., post-award fiscal experience, sponsor management)
Multi-site project management experience
Multi-investigator team management experience
Substantial experience hiring, training and supervising junior staff.
Conditions Of Employment

Work is suitable for 4+ days per week in hospital with occasional remote work
On-call/standby time may be required based on needs within the department
