Requirements
  • A valid Colorado driver’s license is required; required to operate CDOT vehicles.
  • Current, valid licensure as a Professional Engineer from the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers, and Professional Land Surveyors.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience as a licensed professional engineer, one (1) of which must have been at the level of a unit supervisor, staff authority, or equivalent.
  • Transcripts from colleges or universities outside of the United States must have been assessed for U.S. equivalency by a NACES educational credential evaluation service.
  • The credential evaluation report must be an official report.
  • Failure to provide a transcript or official foreign credential evaluation report may result in your application being rejected and you will not be able to continue in the selection process for this position.
  • Must pass a pre-employment screening which may include social security number trace, criminal records check, public court records check, educational records, and driving records checks.
  • A current valid driver’s license is required for all Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) positions which require operating a state or personal motor vehicle to perform one or more essential functions of the position.
  • Be available for contact during the day, evening or night for construction projects, highway impacts or closures and staffing snow teams at various locations.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and be adaptable to changing assignments;
  • Working with general public, professional, consultants, and staff, with sensitivity to their needs, priorities, promises made and commitments;
  • Passion for safety;
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access), Gmail, SAP, AASHTO ME Design, MicroStation, InRoads, and the strong ability to quickly learn other software systems.

  • The Exceptional Applicant will be an experienced engineering program manager and will possess the proven ability or accomplishment in the following:
  • Demonstrated success with the duties listed in the Description of the Job section;

  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in public and/or private management of a multi-million dollar program or organization;
  • Knowledge and experience with engineering fundamentals, DOT Pavement Design Manual, CDOT's Standard Specifications for Road & Bridge Construction, and M & S Standards;

  • Maintain current working knowledge of engineering processes, theories, laws, principles, conceptual models, and best practices;
  • Knowledge of CDOT's Program Management processes, procedures and management tools;
  • Knowledge of CDOT's Asset Management processes and procedures;
  • Being open to change and new information; adapting behavior and work methods in response to quickly changing conditions or unexpected obstacles;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and mentor staff members
  • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments, priorities, and projects in a demanding environment;
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and be adaptable to changing assignments;
  • Ability to take initiative to solve problems in an innovative manner;
  • Ability to partner with professionals, consultants, vendors, stakeholders and staff, with sensitivity to their needs and priorities;

Education
  • (Not required) – Current, valid licensure as a Professional Engineer from the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers, and Professional Land Surveyors.
  • (Required) – Three (3) years of professional experience as a licensed professional engineer, one (1) of which must have been at the level of a unit supervisor, staff authority, or equivalent.
  • (Required) – Appropriate education in addition to that required for the professional engineer license will substitute for the required general experience on a year-for-year basis, but not the supervisory or staff authority experience.
