Requirements
  • Able to learn and use multiple systems simultaneously (such as student record databases, customer relationship management systems, degree progress tools, appointment systems, and analytics software/tools).
  • Experience working with students in higher education/college-level academic advising
  • Demonstrated use of problem-solving skills; critical thinking; time management skills; and having to rapidly adapt and effectively utilize new technology, practices, and policies
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers, faculty, students, administration, and others
  • Organizational experience while prioritizing multiple tasks in a fast-paced and service-focused environment; detail-oriented
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ASU academic structure and organization
  • Experience using: Student information computer systems (i.e., PeopleSoft, DARS, etc.)
  • Experience using: Microsoft Office Applications (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint); Salesforce
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, and methods of evidence-based academic advising strategies
  • Ability to direct and support undergraduate and graduate students at the University
  • Ability to utilize various software, advising theories, and retention-focused strategies
  • Ability to work under direct supervision to support students by performing specific, articulated goals and outcomes
  • Ability to understand general student requests for information and assistance
  • Demonstrates how to escalate urgent/conflicting requests
  • Applies collaborative approaches and strategies to devise solutions for student requests
  • Ability to utilize collegial interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relationships
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge of essential applications to communicate with internal and external customers
  • Ability to utilize multiple applications or systems to elicit resolutions to student requests while maintaining an openness to new and developing tools used across the University to aid in student success and service excellence
  • Applies and demonstrates approaches for supporting/guiding students through curriculum requirements; identifies and creates connections to resources for students to support goals; delivers advising practices following relevant university, college/department/school ethical and legal guidelines; actively builds knowledge of key University or college/department/school resources
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable working in an environment focused on continuous improvement and innovation
Preferred Skills
  • Masters degree in Counseling or higher education, preferred

  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills

Education
  • (Not required) – Bachelor's degree; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • (Not required) – Masters degree in Counseling or higher education, preferred
  • (Not required) – Experience working with students in higher education/college-level academic advising
