TRAFFIC SIGNAL SYSTEMS ANALYST

Summary Of Position
The position performs a variety of professional and advanced technical tasks in support of computerized traffic signal systems and provides technical support to traffic engineering staff.
What You Can Expect To Be Doing (Essential Functions)

Manages cameras in the network; manages monitors in the Traffic Management Center, views and display; manages servers that is critical for clients to have access to the message boards, cameras and the signal system remotely.
Analyzes traffic data and computer traffic parameters, develops traffic models, and refines signal timing plans.
Designs and implements messages to be displayed on Variable Messaging Signs throughout the Town.
Develops, implements and fine tunes signal timing plans; manages graphics, monitors databases and performs preventive maintenance on the central signal system server equipment.
Coordinates, reviews, and implements traffic signal timing plan revisions with technical, maintenance and NCDOT staff.
Performs and coordinates troubleshooting and repair of the computerized traffic signal system failures with technical maintenance and contractor staff
Maintains and operates traffic signal systems and ensures the proper traffic flow throughout the town.
Analyzes traffic volume and performs traffic signal studies; implements traffic signal timing plans and assists in their developments as needed.
Troubleshoots and repairs signal system and communication problems, monitors computerized signal system daily and revises, updates and changes technical code(s).
Implements signal timing plans for special events, prepares and helps prepare quarterly maintenance reports to NCDOT and the town, performs a variety of drafting duties using various GIS and computer software programs, sets and maintains system timing plan database and documentation.
Functions as lead worker perform essentially the same work as those directed including overseeing work quality, training, and instruction and scheduling.
Creates meetings in Teams and include stakeholders vital to the meeting for shared information.
Obtains crash reports and develops signal damage reports to send to the Office of Risk Management.
Completes all other duties as assigned.

What do you need to know to do this job effectively?
Knowledge Of

Aerial photographing.
Principles and practices of Civil, Transportation, Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
Experience with Manual of uniform traffic control devices.
GIS related software Auto CAD, ARC-INFO, ARCGIS, etc.
Signal system operating software, Centras or similar software.
Traffic modeling/Signal Timing Software (Sync-ho, Sim-traffic, Trutraffic, etc.).
Traffic control devices, computer systems, and peripherals techniques of research and analysis.
Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
Basic computer repair and networking.
Ability To

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing, including but not limited to email, reports, and resident phone calls

What is education and/or experience do you need to be considered for this job?
Education And Experience

An associate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering, electrical engineering, computer programming, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties, bachelor's degree preferred.
Three years of progressive and directly related experience in traffic signal system operations and maintenance and/or complex database management is preferred.
