Requirements
  • Advanced mechanical and electrical troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Strong mastery of PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) – required, not optional.

  • Ability to manage multiple automation projects simultaneously from concept through deployment.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Operations, Facilities, and R&D.
  • Hands-on, proactive approach with strong floor presence.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work across multiple sites.
  • Motivated to grow into advanced controls integration, SCADA/MES development, and enterprise-level automation strategy.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in automation and/or manufacturing floor support, preferably within medical device, diagnostics, biotech, or other regulated industries.
  • Proven experience supporting automation systems, equipment integration, and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering URS/FRS, engineering specifications, FAT/SAT, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to read, create, and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, PLC/HMI logic flow, and system documentation.
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • PLC programming software (Rockwell Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, Siemens, or equivalent)
  • HMI platforms
  • Vision systems (Cognex, Sherlock, or similar)
  • Robotics / cobots
  • Experience with manufacturing data and automation platforms:
  • SCADA / AVEVA Wonderware
  • OSIsoft PI / PI Historian
  • Equipment connectivity and data integration
  • Experience working in regulated environments, including ISO 13485, FDA QSR, GDP, GMP.
  • Familiarity with CMMS systems (e.g., Mpulse).
  • Must live within commuting distance of Waltham, Norwood, and Billerica (no relocation assistance provided).
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel regularly across Nova’s Massachusetts sites based on business need.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while on the production floor or in the lab (up to 4–6 hours/day).
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items up to 25–30 pounds occasionally (e.g., reagent containers, lab equipment).
  • Manual dexterity to handle lab tools, open containers, operate equipment, or input data into systems.
  • Ability to climb stairs or ladders occasionally to access equipment or elevated workspaces.
  • Visual acuity and color vision sufficient for reading labels, monitoring equipment displays, and identifying chemical indicators or reactions.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including lab coats, gloves, goggles, face shields, and respiratory protection, as required.
  • Ability to work in various operations such as chemical processing, PCB, warehouses, analyzer assembly, consumable processing of sensors and strips.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods when performing administrative tasks (computer work, meetings, reporting, etc.).
Preferred Skills

Education
  • (Not required) – Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related engineering field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • (Required) – Minimum of 8 years of experience in automation and/or manufacturing floor support, preferably within medical device, diagnostics, biotech, or other regulated industries.
