Responsibilities
- Independently fabricates, modifies, assembles, and installs complex laboratory and experimental systems, including mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical components.
- Operates, troubleshoots, and maintains GCS, aircraft systems, and specialized test equipment in both lab and field environments.
- Supports engineering and design efforts by assisting in the development of test equipment and procedures for production and R&D applications.
- Coordinates with engineering teams to design rework or prototype modifications and provides feedback on equipment performance and feasibility.
- Conducts and documents complex failure investigations by replicating reported issues and identifying root causes using data-driven methods.
- Performs complex diagnostic testing and preventive maintenance on fielded and experimental systems to improve reliability and minimize downtime.
- Develops and executes detailed test plans, records and analyzes data, and prepares technical reports including charts, graphs, and written evaluations.
- Interprets engineering drawings, technical instructions, and specifications to assemble, operate, and troubleshoot complex systems.
- Replicates test cables from drawings/bill of materials, orders parts through SAP, and assembles or repairs cables using minimal tools.
- Leads prototype builds and test configurations, providing supervision for junior technicians or team members as required.
- Participates in resource planning, procurement of parts and materials, and coordinates logistics for lab operations and field activities.
- Reviews hardware design artifacts and drawings to order and track the delivery of repair and test equipment.
- Travels occasionally, primarily to California desert facilities, with potential international assignments lasting approximately 10–14 days.
- Performs occasional tasks such as transporting parts, handling shipping and courier deliveries (including to desert test facilities), and retrieving commonly used stock items.
- Performs hands-on work safely around operating engines, adhering to all local safety protocols and authority requirements.
- Ensures compliance with safety protocols, company policies, and applicable regulations when handling high-energy, cryogenic, vacuum, or hazardous systems.
- Maintains lab infrastructure, test setups, and documentation, and performs general housekeeping duties.
