Requirements
  • Proven ability to lift push, pull and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and move variety of metal racks with/without caging, and other facility equipment.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and redirect emphasis when requested or required by special circumstances or additional assignment.
  • Proven ability to function effectively ln a team, able to adhere to departmental policies and SOPs.
  • Basic computer skills, sufficient to enter data into computer databases and to send and receive emails.
  • ALAT certification (or reasonably expects to obtain the certification within 12 months). of laboratory animal experience.
  • Driver's License: Required to hold a valid drivers license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
  • Knowledge of various methods of animal restraint and ability to handle various species of animals.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues pertaining to the care and use of animals used in research, testing and instruction.
  • Knowledge of governmental (Federal and State) animal welfare laws and regulations, and accreditation requirements.
  • LAT certification Special Conditions: Required to work weekends and holidays on rotation.
  • Must wear protective clothing provided by ULAR.
  • Valid California driver's license required.
  • Constant exposure to possible allergens in the cage wash area, including (but not limited to) animal waste from dirty cages, dirty bedding, animal hair and dander, dust and steam.
  • The work area is enclosed with no direct access to open air.
  • Must attend technician training courses/meetings per ULAR's discretion.
  • Must participate in medical monitoring programs as prescribed by the Occupational Health and Safety Program.
  • Consideration for Work Authorization Sponsorship Must be able to provide proof of work authorization
Preferred Skills
  • ALAT certification (or reasonably expects to obtain the certification within 12 months). of laboratory animal experience.
  • Preferred: Good working knowledge of established animal husbandry practices including but not limited to: environmental and nutritional needs of each species housed in the area/facility; the criteria and necessary equipment and supplies for routine housekeeping; disease transferred from animals to humans and visa versa.
  • Knowledge of various methods of animal restraint and ability to handle various species of animals.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues pertaining to the care and use of animals used in research, testing and instruction.
  • Knowledge of governmental (Federal and State) animal welfare laws and regulations, and accreditation requirements.
Education
